Daily Guests

Our attractions page lists many things in the area, but we know it can be hard to decide if you’re short on time. If you’re only staying at Walnut RV Park for a few nights we recommend a day trip to Santa Monica or a visit to Universal Studios.

Day Trip to Santa Monica

From Walnut you can drive through Topanga Canyon for a more scenic trip to the beach. You’ll pass by Will Rogers State Park where you can park and go for a long beach walk or take a surfing lesson. Then hop back in the car and head to the Pier. The Santa Monica Pier is a charming amusement park above the beach. There are rides, food, and many vendors to peruse. After your day at the beach and lunch at the Pier you can head into Santa Monica downtown. Santa Monica’s Montana Avenue has high-end shops and their outdoor mall, the 3rd Street Promenade, is another nice place to walk, grab some food or go to a movie. It’s easy to fill a day visiting Santa Monica and you’ll understand the draw of SoCal living with the walkability and beach access. You can drive back via the 405 to make it a loop and you’ll get to see the Hollywood sign on your return trip.

Universal Studios

We have an entire post about Universal Studios Hollywood because it is such a popular attraction for our guests. If you are short on time and like amusement parks we recommend spending a day here.

Weekly Guests

If you have more than a few nights you can take some downtime at Walnut to catch up on laundry and hang by our pool. The shopping within a 5 minute radius of Walnut is fantastic. You can go to Costco, Aldi’s and dozens of other stores to get any item you may need for your camper.

In addition to the Santa Monica day trip and a day at Universal, we’d point you to enjoying one of L.A.’s many professional sports leagues:

We often show games in our Clubhouse and would be happy to host a watch party for your favorite team.

Griffith Observatory is a great stop on your week of exploring Los Angeles. It gives you a view of the entire city, has access to hiking trails, and is free. You’ll pass the L.A. Zoo on the way to Griffith so it’s easy to combine a zoo day with a picnic at the observatory. The observatory is next to Hollywood and you can easily visit Hollywood before or after a stop at Griffith.

Monthly Guests

Our park is situated in the heart of Northridge, just over the Santa Monica Mountains from the Pacific Ocean. Topanga Canyon is due south of us, we’re 45 minutes from LAX, and about 30 minutes to Hollywood and Griffith Observatory.

In Northridge, and within a 5 minute radius of Walnut, you’ll find any store you could need from Costco to local coffee shops.

Food

  • We recommend visiting the Wednesday night Farmers Market March - October.

Fitness

  • Join a Hiking Group: there are several in the area including the Granada Hills Meetup Group and the Sierra Club’s San Fernando Valley Group Hikes. A few hikes to consider:

    • Aliso Canyon Park Easy to Moderate with shaded creek paths, very beginner-friendly.

    • O'Melveny Park Moderate to strenuous, heavy incline trails with great Valley overlooks.

    • Caballero Canyon Trail Moderate trail connecting up to the iconic Mulholland Drive dirt trails.

  • Join the North Valley YMCA or another nearby gym.

Music

  • Los Angeles has a fabulous music scene. Be sure to check large venues like the Hollywood Bowl and SoFi Stadium to see a show during your time in L.A.
